NGC 7023 - Iris Nebula16 viewsA very nice reflection nebula in Cepheus, this is a mix of dark nebulae and the bright star in the middle which lights up the surrounding gas like a massive flashlight.

This image consists of 12x3.5x3.5x3.5 hours of LRGB data for a combined total of 22.5 hours of exposure time.

Sharpless 2 - 869 viewsA large diffuse nebula in Vulpecula, this image is a culmination of 14.5 hours of data in Hydrogen Alpha, Red, Green, and Blue wavelengths. Specifically 7x2.5x2.5x2.5 hours in HaRGB. Aug 19, 2010

The Crescent Nebula35 viewsThis is almost 24 hours of data on an elusive target that I've been chasing for YEARS. I leveraged an approach of blending Ha (narrowband data) in my R, G, and B channels here to bring out the reds without squashing the colors. I'm happy with the results!Jun 23, 2010
IC1871_-_Web.jpg
IC 1871112 viewsThis is a small portion of the larger SH2-199 nebula. I've always particularly liked this area and have wanted to image it in LRGB vs. integrating any Ha data into the photo, as most astrophotographers choose to do. This came out a little "flatter" than I expected, but overall I think it shows up some nice features and the color is very true. The red isn't overwhelming or "pink" like you see with most HaRGB images.Oct 25, 2009

NGC 89165 viewsCommonly known as the "Triangulum Galaxy" this a wonderful example of a nearly edge on galaxy from Earth's perspective. I've chosen to emulate the color palate used by the Hubble and some other astrophotographers that I admire vs. letting the "natural" ruddy color of this galaxy shine through. Effectively I've "un-redshifted" this one to let the more natural colors of the galaxy come out. It's all art at this point anyways :)Oct 04, 2009
VDB142_-_Web.jpg
VDB 14290 viewsThis is a really nice dust formation in the constellation Cepheus. There is a lot going on in this exposure, which is comprised of 12 hours of data, 9x1x1x1 hours of LRGB data.Aug 25, 2009
VDB142_-_Keyhole2.jpg
VDB14266 viewsThis is a closeup of the "keyhole" in this nebula that I find really interesting. This is simply a full resolution crop of my wider shot of this object.Aug 25, 2009

M57 - Ring Nebula123 viewsThis is an extremely deep exposure of the Ring Nebula, combining Ha as well as visible light into a single HaLRGB image. The faint details were captured due to the 25 hours of total exposure time, which mainly consisted of 19 hours of Ha data. Ironically, most of the Ha data was tossed out, except for the wisps of gas around the main structure of the nebula.Jun 30, 2009

M101 - Pinwheel Galaxy98 viewsA beautiful galaxy that rides high in the early spring sky. . .this is a rather challenging target because of the low surface brightness across the galaxy. This shot consists of 12.5 total hours of LRGB data.Jun 03, 2009

NGC3953_-_Web.jpg
NGC 395366 viewsA very nice barred spiral galaxy in Virgo. . .less known than it's brighter neighbor M109, still a very nice little galaxy!Apr 26, 2009
NGC_4216_-_1st_Try.jpg
NGC 4216 & Friends51 viewsThis is a shot of a nice galaxy group, including NGC 4216, 4222, and 4206. This shot was taken with my RC Optical Systems 12.1 Ritchey Chretien telescope, my SBIG STL11k, all riding on my Losmandy Titan mount. This shot consists of 3 hours of luminance data, and 30 minutes each of RGB.Apr 20, 2009
